META has been working on adding NFT support on its platforms since May. In the first month of spring, the company announced that it started testing the feature on Instagram with selected creators. In June, META added more creators to the Instagram list and allowed a handful of creators to post their digital collectibles on Facebook. Lastly, at the beginning of August, META announced that it started to support NFTs on Instagram in 100 countries.
In the August 29th announcement, META noted:
As we continue rolling out digital collectibles on Facebook and Instagram, we’ve started giving people the ability to post digital collectibles that they own across both Facebook and Instagram. This will enable people to connect their digital wallets once to either app to share their digital collectibles across both.
META supports NFTs that are minted on Ethereum, Flow, or Polygon blockchains. On top of that, users can connect their MetaMask, Rainbow, Coinbase Wallet, Trust Wallet, and Dapper Wallet to social media platforms.
The users can connect their wallets only through Facebook and Instagram apps rather than internet browsers.
In other news, in May, the company filed documents to receive a trademark for a crypto payment platform called Meta Pay.
